The Institute of Physics CAS of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was founded in 1928 as the Institute of Physics of the National Academia Sinica and the Institute of Physics of the Peiping Research Institute established in 1929. In 1950, the Institute of Physics was established on the basis of the merger. The Institute of Applied Physics of the Academy of Sciences, on October 8, 1958, opened its current name. Famous scientists such as Wu Youxun, Zhao Zhongyu, Yan Jici, Wu Jianxiong and Qian Sanqiang have worked in the Institute of Physics.
